Capital Black Chamber of Commerce Announces President/CEO Temporary Leave of
Absence and Interim Leadership Appointment
Sacramento, CA — The Board of Directors of the Capital Black Chamber of Commerce (CapBCC)
announced today that Azizza Davis Goines, President and Chief Executive Officer, has taken a
temporary leave of absence, effective December 5, 2025. The Board respectfully requests that her
privacy be honored during this time.
The CapBCC Board of Directors, in coordination with the Sacramento Black Chamber of Commerce
Foundation Board, has appointed Dr. Melanie Okoro, Chair of the Board of Directors, as Interim
President and Chief Executive Officer, ensuring strong leadership and continued advancement of the
Chamber and Foundation’s mission during the leave.
A seasoned executive and board leader, Dr. Okoro has spent her career building strategic
partnerships, guiding organizations and boardrooms, and championing pathways to
opportunity, economic advancement and community impact. Her institutional knowledge and long standing commitment to the Chamber position her to lead effectively during this interim period.
“Leadership continuity and mission focus remain our highest priority. All programs, initiatives, and
commitments of the Chamber continue with momentum and purpose. “I am honored to serve in this
interim role,” said Dr. Okoro. “Our mission remains steadfast, and our work continues with focus and dedication in service to our members, partners, and community.”
As Interim CEO, Dr. Okoro will assume full executive authority and oversee operations, strategic
initiatives, and stakeholder engagement. The Board will continue to provide active governance and
oversight to ensure alignment with the Chamber’s mission and strategic objectives.
In exciting news, the highly anticipated Capital Nights Gala, previously postponed, has now been
rescheduled for February 21, 2026. The Chamber looks forward to welcoming the community for an
evening of celebration and unity that reflects the vibrant spirit and mission of the organization.
