The Capital Black Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s “A Women’s Forum…Connecting the Dots” was a Resounding Success.
The Capital Black Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s first Women’s Forum was held at the Marriott Courtyard Midtown on March 22nd.
The day began with a welcome from SMUD Director and Immediate Past Chair of the Capital Black Chamber of Commerce, Larry Carr.
Wendy Petko, Executive Director of the Center for Community Health and Well Being, Inc. and recipient of the CAPBCC’s 2011 Nonprofit of the Year Award acted as Mistress of Ceremonies for the day.
The attendees welcomed Alice Huffman, President of the California/Hawaii Conference and national board member of the NAACP. Ms. Huffman galvanized and rewarded the participants with words of encouragement. The theme of her talk centered on the need for education, persistence and the need for political savvy.
The day rounded out with speakers Darcel Lee, Executive Director of the California Black Health Network, Deborah Muramoto, Director of Fund Development and Marketing for California Capital, Zoritha Thompson, Owner of Goree and Thompson Real Estate, Tina Reynolds, Owner of Uptown Studios and last but certainly not least, Shanita Williams, Learning Consultant for the University of Phoenix.
Discussions followed around women in business focusing on health, accessing capital long and short term planning for your business and self, the importance of social media today and finding balance.
The event for its first year actually sold out. “We were sorry we had to put a waiting list together the last week prior to the event, stated Chamber CEO, Azizza Davis Goines, but we’ll know next year to consider a little larger venue.”
A special thanks to all of our Sponsors for the days’ events. They include PG&E, Western Health Advantage, SMUD, Western States Petroleum Association, California Capital and Wells Fargo Bank.
“The evaluations indicated a real appreciation for the information received throughout the day,” said Azizza. “We look forward to providing these opportunities of growth and the networking opportunities to our members and potential members. Our goal remains providing services to our member businesses enabling them to increase their revenues and allowing growth to our region as well.”
