Sacramento, CA — The Board of Directors of the Capital Black Chamber
of Commerce (CapBCC) is pleased to announce the return of President
and CEO Azizza Goines, effective January 5, 2026, following a brief leave
of absence. The Board of Directors extends its appreciation to the
Chamber’s members, partners, and community for their continued
support during this period.
The Board would also like to formally recognize Dr. Melanie Okoro, Chair
of the Board of Directors, for her leadership while serving as Acting Interim
President and CEO during Ms. Goines’ absence. Additionally, the Board
thanks Dr. Marcellene Watson-Derbigny for her service as Acting Chair
of the Board. As of January 5, 2026, Dr. Okoro and Dr. Watson-Derbigny
have both returned to their respective roles as Chair and Vice Chair of the
Board of Directors.
The Board of Directors is deeply grateful for the leadership demonstrated
during this transition, ensuring that all Chamber programs, initiatives, and
organizational commitments continued without disruption. The Capital
Black Chamber of Commerce remains thankful for the ongoing support of
its sponsors, investors, members, and community partners.
The Chamber also invites the community to attend the Capital Nights
Gala, scheduled for February 21 at the SAFE Credit Union Convention
Center. This signature event will mark the Chamber’s 40th Anniversary,
celebrated during Black History Month, and will feature a glamorous
Harlem Nights theme. The evening will also include the launch of the
Young Leadership Collaborative 2026 and the installation of the 2026
Board of Directors.
